A Hoax

A while ago, I saw a post on social media saying I could get a free $100 gift card just by clicking a link and answering a few questions, and it looked really real because it used a popular company name and had a bunch of comments saying it worked. This was a hoax and a scam because the purpose was to trick people into giving away personal information like emails or even credit card details so the creators could make money or steal data. It worked by using a trusted brand, creating urgency like “limited time only,” and adding fake comments to make it seem legit, which made people more likely to click without thinking. Looking back, there were clear signs it was fake, like the weird looking link that didn’t match the real website and the fact that the offer seemed too good to be true. To figure out if something like this is real or not, I could search it up to see if the actual company is promoting it, check the URL carefully, and think more critically before clicking or sharing personal info. This experience showed me how easy it is to fall for online hoaxes and why it’s important to double check things before trusting them.

  1. Always keep an eye out for hoax, nothing is ever truly free. Lookout for the fake comments and the weird links because that’s something a lot of people don’t notice.

  2. Honestly, this just shows now common these scams are now and how people still fall for them. People need to slow down before clicking right away.
